And then it all went wrong again. Another season lost.

Race Report: The swim was great. The end.
..
I wish! A series of unfortunate events led to a ~35mph bike crash and what seemed like a 15 minute slow motion set of flips and tumbles that ended at the Montefiore Trauma Center. All the stories about time stopping during crashes are true. I felt like I had eons to make decisions about every one of my limbs and how they were going to hit the ground each time.
..
There's a long version, but a TLDR is that no one around me did anything wrong, the course conditions were great & it could have happened anywhere, tons of people tried to help before I waved them away so they could keep racing, and it only made me like the vibes of the #HarrymanTri even more. Congrats to all the racers. Hope the ambulance didn't get in your way. And I'll be back next year to try to re-earn that top podium spot.
..
Huge thanks to the on-site crew & police for the initial care, to all the doctors, nurses, and EMTs at Montefiore Hospital, and to the RD and volunteer crew for helping me get all my stuff that was scattered on the road and in T1. Also a big thank you to @nsalenetri who had to cut her #speedwork short to Uber to the race & hospital to shuttle me around (even though I told her I'd be a while and that she should 100% finish her speedwork).
..
Not sure the full extent of the damage yet, but the slow mo decision making went pretty well. Besides the bruising and road rash over most of my body, the only real concern is my shoulder. MRI follow-up tomorrow to check how bad the separation is, but we're pretty sure nothing is broken. At those speeds, feels like something to be grateful for. Also, a crack on my bike fork may warrant a replacement part or three but could have been worse there too.
..
So thank you again to all the people that helped me out yesterday and sent nice messages to check in. With some luck I may be able to salvage a lot of this season. And if you're curious, my Strava file confirmed it's just under 16 miles from the race start to the nearest level 2 trauma center.
